Strong inside but you don't know it
Good little girls they never show it
When you open up your mouth to speak
Could you be a little weak
Do you know what it feels like for a girl
Do you know what it feels like in this world
For a girl
Hair that twirls on finger tips so gently, baby
Hands that rest on jutting hips repenting
Hurt that's not supposed to show
And tears that fall when no one knows
When you're trying hard to be your best
Could you be a little less
Do you know what it feels like for a girl
Do you know what it feels like in this world
What it feels like for a girl
Strong inside but you don't know it
Good little girls they never show it
When you open up your mouth to speak
Could you be a little weak
Do you know what it feels like for a girl
Do you know what it feels like in this world
For a girl
What It Feels Like For a Girl: Madonna
I've always been a huge Madonna fan. As I child I had the "True Blue" album on cassette tape and I would dress in my pink/blue polka dot bathing suit (with attached ruffle) and dance around my room singing "Open Your Heart", "True Blue", "Borderline", "Papa Don't Preach" (no I didn't know that song was about pregnancy out of wedlock). I was obsessed. Another one of her song's...a more recent one...called "What It Feels Like For a Girl" is one I've really really liked. It's all about female empowerment. Basically guys put down girls and girls silence themselves because it's what they "should" do. Yes we've come a long way as a society and empowering women but there is still a stigma attached to being a girl. We're "emotional", "weak", "needy". Yep sometimes I'm all three of those things. But sometimes I'm detached, strong, independent. Women are so many many things. If you have a chance listen to this song. I really love it.
Also if you're looking for a really cool version of this song and you're looking to fall more in love with the boys from "Glee" check this out.
*On Tuesday Glee dedicates an entire episode to the music of Madonna. Do you have your DVR's set yet???
