gLeek
I am a total Glee nerd. A Gleek if you will.
Obsessed with this show. They've been on their winter hiatus and I am so desperate for it to come back. April 13th.
Can't wait. To commemorate the occasion I will be sharing a different quote everyday from this show.
Today's quote:
"Sometimes people ask me, "Sue, how come you're so sensitive to minorities?" Well, I'll tell you why. Because I know firsthand how hard it is to struggle as a minority in America today. I'm 1/16th Comanche Indian. In fact, I like minorities so much, I'm thinking of moving to California to become one."

Shower Thoughts
I have some really great ideas. I get the premise for most of my brilliant ideas in the shower. The shower is my thinking place. I could literally spend over 4 hours in the shower if I could. While in the shower today I thought of another brilliant idea. I will share with you my shower thoughts. I know you want to know where all the genius comes from so I will share with you the secret to my success. I have decided to name this segment of my blog "Shower Thoughts by Vanessa". I even made a header for it.
My inspiration for the name of this segment was from Creed Bratton and his "Creed Thoughts"- check it out
So my shower thought for today:
Wouldn't it be great if they had portable microwaves? You could take popcorn with you ANYWHERE! Especially to the movies- I'm not sure how the theaters would feel about this (ok I am sure) but it would be really cool to not have to pay a college tuition for a bag of popcorn. I like store bought popcorn better anyway.
Portable microwaves. My shower thought for the day.

Spotlight Reversed
So I was thinking of friends to spotlight every Friday and came up with 2 more that I would feature in the next 2 weeks. The first one was ready willing and able (and will be featured tomorrow....get excited!) with no qualms. The other however threw a pseudo hissy fit and demanded that if they were going to fill out "some stupid questions" the least I could do is "fill it out" myself "first". Whatever. So here you go. This is me.

Me, Doogie, Artie, and Slash
Have you ever had a dream that felt so real when you woke up you were surprised that it wasn't? This happened to me last night. I dreamt that I was having dinner with Neil Patrick Harris and Artie from Glee.
This has nothing to do with what I'm about to tell you.
I was on iTunes today and found out that on April 6th Christmas is coming early for me. That is because the longtime object of my affection
SLASH
is finally releasing an album.
I'm sure you all remember how I feel about
but if not...
I'm waiting for you April 6th.
XOXO,
Me and SLASH
Luck 'O The Irish
Since some of my ancestors are Irish (along with probably 1/2 of the U.S. population) I feel a deep ancestral tie to this holiday (not really).
One highly obnoxious part of this holiday is the whole you have to wear green thing. Remember in Elementary school where they were like "you're not wearing green I'm going to pinch you!" You know what kid? A. You are so clearly not Irish it's ridiculous you even think you can threaten me and my heritage and B. If you pinch me I'll punch you in the face.
It's even more annoying now. Because apparently March 17th gives everyone the excuse to revert back to Elementary school. You know that obnoxious lady who is like "Oh you aren't wearing green....Sommmmeeeeebodddyyyyy needs to be pinched!" And then laughs hysterically like it's the absolutely funniest thing ever said? You know what lady? A. Not funny and B. If you pinch me I'll punch you in the face.
Moving on there was a clover field on the softball/baseball/kickball field at my Elementary school and we would spend a lot of recesses searching to no avail for 4 leaf clovers. I found one for you guys so you don't need to waste precious time....you're welcome.
One more aspect of this holiday I would like to acknowledge. Leprechauns. Totally creepy right? I know. They are definitely the thing that scare me most next to clowns. Little creepy ginger headed men who sneak into your room at night? No thank you.
Why else do you think they centered an entire series of horror movies on these deranged little men? Key word: horror
For all of you celebrating this holiday A. Have fun B. Stay away from men offering you gold (there is another word for that considering Leprechauns aren't exactly real) and C. Go get a Shamrock shake at McDonalds. They are awesome, only available through March, and are easily my 2nd favorite frozen treat at a fast food joint.(and doesn't taste like mint like you'd expect)

we're all mad here...
There is a place. Like no place on Earth. A land full of wonder, mystery, and danger! Some say to survive it: You need to be as mad as a hatter. Which luckily I am.
I fell down the hole.
I applaud the film. The costumes, the make-up, the eery Elfman melodies, the Tim Burton (rather Dali-esque) magic dust sprinkled on every piece of the puzzle. It may not perfect, but what really is? I know there will be those that will rip this film to pieces. If any share my sentiment, we feel protective over our childhood love affairs that involved these curious characters. The mysticism, the beauty and the madness of it all. I was very young when I developed my adulation for Alice, and years later, this conviction has only grown.
Regardless of your opinion on the story of Underland, one thing rings as clear as a bell and cannot be denied. The details are stunning. Down to things you might never notice, like the bats that flutter to support the chandelier in the Queen’s castle. I will have to see it again to notice all the things that I missed.
Are you the real Alice? The real Alice? What does that mean?
Weekend In Review...
Friday: This was the beginning of what is sure to be a weekend for the books. (And by books I mean this blog since nobody really cares about my weekend)....my friend Katie called me and we (along with her husband, husband's little bro, and family friend) went to dinner at the best little pizza place called "Slab"- seriously everyone should eat there at least once (or maybe 100 times) in their life. Then we headed to their ward activity where we ate pie in honor of the day of "Pi" ya know like 3.14 (March 14th....ya get it???). Then we played games and just laughed. It was a blast.
Saturday: My BFF Jess came down and we had such a fun time. What originally started out as grabbing dinner turned into one amazing weekend. We first headed to another great pizza place the one and only CPK
SO DELISH
However we were cracking ourselves up because all of the waiters literally had so much facial hair it was unreal. One guy had a practically bald head but a full beard (a phenomena that I will never quite understand). It was crazy and hilarious.
We then headed over to the mall for some retail therapy. And it was very very therapeutic. We then decided to head to the movies. We carried our purses full of contraband treats over to the theater and embarked on a truly magical journey. We saw "Alice in Wonderland' a day I had been anticipating for months. It did not disappoint. I will be filling you in more completely in another post but it was wonderful (and for the record I have NEVER been more attracted to the Mad Hatter as I was in this movie. Darn your sexiness Johnny Depp).
Then we headed over to our favorite Polynesians apartment to mix and engage in stimulating conversation. Then I packed up my stuff and Jess and I headed up to Salt Lake City where I spent the rest of the weekend.
It was so fun to just hang out with Jess. It was like having a roommate again which is something I really miss. Making dinners, watching trashy TV, girl talk....brought back some great memories! (Shout out to our other roomies....miss ya!)
Just got back this morning...exhausted and tons of laundry to do but happy.
Hope you all had a great weekend as well!

Me and My Husband
in a future perfectly quirky and cute and whimsical life.
These people are not me and my (imaginary) husband but OMG you guys my jaw hit the keyboard when I saw their wedding. Can you say jealous!? So adorable. I don't know them and it's possible I'm a creep for posting this on my blog but if it is wrong I don't want to be right. Perfection.
This was the picture that originally hooked me and the rest is just as equally amazing.

Penelope and William in Tennessee. That is like the triple crown of a great wedding. And she is the only girl ever who can pull off the name Penelope. See the rest
Spotlight Friday- Jen Chaput
Today is Spotlight Friday which sounds really cheesy. And let's be honest- it is. But it's my blog so if you don't like it find someone else's blog. I have a whole list to the right of your screen of people who don't do this. I'm sure they'd be happy to have you. (You being Jen because I think you're the only person who reads my blog).
However today our spotlight is on Jen (because she is the only one who reads my blog)
Jen is very pretty (she's the one on the right)
I mean seriously. Nic you are a lucky guy.
We have been friends since junior year of high school when we were both trapped in this strange vortex that is called the high school drama program (and apparently Jen wore fedoras and danced in my room)
We were the coolest ones there though. So I sent her this questionnaire and here were here answers.
Three of your greatest achievements
1. Being married and sincerely working at it [seriously I conquered a lifetime of hating on marriage with that little step
2. Having Logan [literally labor, WOW]
3.Having great friends (Jen then proceeded to go on and on about what a great friend I am which I don't want to put on here because it might make everyone else feel bad about the kind of friend they are)
Three names you go by
1. Jenny
2. Jen
3. Love Face [I would say "mama" but Logan has used it to refer to both me and cats, so we'll wait on that one]
Three things that scare you
1. Living without people knowing I love Jesus through my actions
2. When Nic creeps up behind me and I don't notice
3. Public restroom- seriously people- WASH YOUR HANDS!
Three things that make you happy
Three things you hate
1. Cigarettes
2. Burning my tounge on hot coffee
3. When Jesus doesn't get the mad props He deserves
Three things you are wearing right now
1. Stupidly, the belt that makes me break out because I'm allergic to metal
2. Slippers for my cold feet
3. my wedding ring
[I'm not naked aside from those things just so we're clear]
Three things of the opposite sex that appeal to you
1. How kind they are to others
2. Their smile
3. How rich they are...ha ha kidding- how they love Jesus
Three careers you've considered
1. Teacher
2. Youth Pastor
3. ASL interpreter
(might I add a surfer's wife- pretty much Jen was obsessed with surfers. might I also add we lived in Indiana where surfers are...non existent so...there's that)
Three things you want to do before you die
1. See everyone I really love know Jesus
2. Have better posture
3. hmm...I don't know the third. Heaven will be so much more fulfilling than this life so....? How about not live in a way that would make me cringe any more than I'll already have to when I meet Jesus...ha ha
Describe yourself in one word
alive
This is my favorite picture of Jen. She is dancing and really into it. Perfectly depicts her.

And for no reason at all Logan, Jen's son. Umm...because he's adorable, builds forts, and only eats food if it has maple syrup on it. Yeah you want to be his friend too don't you?
And since this was the debut of Spotlight Friday I would love to know what you think. Unless you're going to tell me to stop. I won't even publish that comment.

1. I hate using my family over and over so I'll just say "family" generally, cause you know Nic and Logan are my boys
2. Great music
3. New....everything. I'll just say shopping at Target where I obviously get all the new things that I love

why hello there...
I'm pretty sure I made my thoughts about this gentleman perfectly clear. However if I didn't...this should help.
Welcome Ryan Reynolds. I think there's a seat between Channing and Clooney over there. Justin Timberlake is in charge if you have any questions. Jake Gyllenhaal, I'm sorry, but we have to let you go.

Professional Make Up Review by: Vanessa
As you may have noticed I am a complete sucker for new products. Any time there is a new hair, home, laundry, and especially make up product- I am literally possessed and no matter what I do (and I try really hard) I can not resist.
My latest obsession? Loreal Perfect Match ROLL-ON make up. Did you see that?! ROLL-ON. Yeah I all capped that. Because it's literally like painting on your face! Oh Loreal...you wiley temptress you. And what do wiley temptresses do? They tempt. In a wiley fashion. As did this make up. So of course I bought it.
And I LOVE it. Yeah all capped that too. LOVE it. I recommend every man, woman, and child own this make up. It will change your life. I already loved their make up because their shades really do match perfectly. Even my alabaster skin tone (which is just a nice way of saying so ghostly pale it's too bad you aren't a hot vampire to distract from the fact that your face is borderline albino) but that's neither here nor there.
Not only does this make up work wonders but it is seriously entertainment to put on. I think I giggled the first time I used it. Because I was that happy.
So stick that professional make up tip in you pipe and smoke it!

Calah and Vanessa have a conversation
C: Question, should I wear my striped shirt?
V: Or...?
C:That's it.
V: I think you should wear the black and white boyfriend cardigan I scrummaged (yeah spell check I know it's not a word. But I used it. Screw you) through Target looking for for hours just for your Christmas gift.
C: You did not! I was the one who found it and the only reason you bought it for me was because it was on clearance!
V: Well what do you think I'm made of money or something? I'm not Heidi effin Klum even though every one tells me I look like her!
1.1 seconds elapse
V:I have a question way more important than this one. Should I wear what I'm wearing now or wear the red shirt under the black sweater?
C: No what you're wearing right now. It looks fresh.
2 seconds elapse
C: Oh guess what song I downloaded?!
V: What?
C: The Free Willy one!!!!
V: I have that one...
C: I know but guess what else I downloaded?
C: proceeds to sing "You remind me of the babe..."
V: Ha
C: Yeah so now the only songs on my iTunes are: Kesha, Lady GaGa, Rude Boy by Rhianna, the Free Willy song, Magic Dance from the Labyrinth, and some song from some musical
10 minutes elapse
C: Question, is this shirt see through?
V: I don't know...how about I try to guess your bra color?
C: Ok...
V: Is it purple?
C: No
V: Blue?
C: ....yes
V: Maybe it's a little see through
Calah is my sister by the way. For those of you who haven't had the pleasure of meeting this delicious person.
On a related note I'm aware that it's kind of creepy when people describe other people in ways they describe food. It is a little "Silence of the Lambs" but sometimes when you are talking about someone say...Channing Tatum...the only true fitting adjective is "Yummy". Get over it.

2.47 pm
It is 2:47 PM.
This is what I have done today:
7:15: wake up
7:45-10:00: watch TV (Real World, Billy the Exterminator, Dog the Bounty Hunter, America's Next Top Model) and pretend to do important business things on my laptop like typing memos, making business decisions, checking emails (aka watch YouTube videos, update my blog, stalk other people's blogs, look at Facebook, check my emails)
10:23: I discover that all of my outgoing emails go to 2 different people. The first is ksl.com trying to win their weekly trivia contest the weather man does and the other is Jen.
It's now 2:51 and I've pretty much been doing all those things on a loop.
I need to stop. Time to shower. And clean and organize something so I feel like I contributed to society.
Unemployment sucks.

Weekend Update
I never blogged about the thrilling events of last week. Since this is for posterity (and I'm positive my children will want to read this riveting account of how I spent my weekend when I was 23) I figured I should jot it down.
Wednesday:
I receive text message from Dad it reads: "hey are you busy tonight? would you be available for a daddy/daughter date?
My thoughts go like this: 1. that's weird 2. is he trying to lure me into a false sense of security 3. what did I do that could have gotten me in trouble?
I respond yes (against my better judgment) and we went to my fave restaurant here called Costa Vida...we ordered us a couple of delicious burritos and sat down. We actually had a really great time and had a great conversation. Long overdue night out with Pops and we scheduled one for next month too.
Thursday:
Sat at home and watched Season 2 of One Tree Hill
Friday:
I had made a date last week with my good friend Katie. We were best friends in Indiana and last year she got married and we had just kind of lost touch. We spent the whole day together just shopping/browsing, reminiscing, and laughing. We even made a delicious home cooked meal (chicken and dumplings) that we shared with her husband Jake. We had a lot of fun and even though it was weird thinking of her married and "grown up" it was nice getting to know her husband. He's a cool guy and I really enjoyed my time with them!
(by the way Katie...I fully expect to be invited over to watch some awesome movie on the BlueRay player!!!)
Saturday:
In the morning we went out to Highland for my cousin's son's baptism. It was so fun because my VERY favorite Aunt Judi and her husband Don flew out from California for the occasion. I just love Aunt Judi- she is the best. Then that afternoon my family and I went out to the mall, Best Buy, and out to dinner at Outback Steakhouse. It was a fun day!
Sunday:
Church, laid back day
Monday:
Went out with my bestie Jess and we had so much fun laughing and venting about our stressful lives.
I seriously have the best friends in my life. I'm so grateful for them and the time we have together. It's so great living so close to so many of them too! And hey...if you want to be my friend too...all ya gotta do is ask! We have fun. You should join us.
That's your weekend update. I'm Vanessa saying Good Night and have a pleasant tomorrow.

In Your Face!
So I don't know if you guys know this but one of my best friends is Tyler Hilton. He is hilarious. I recently came across these delicious (figuratively AND literally) videos and thought I would share them with you. I hope they make you laugh like I did. Also if you aren't already...be prepared to fall in love with him because of his wit, hair, cooking skills, and shenanigans.
I present "Cooking With Tyler" (presented in 3 parts)

Part Trois
and just because every delicious dish needs dessert....this one
