Nora Ephron

Nora Ephron will be greatly missed.  She was always like a female version of John Hughes for me.  So incredibly talented.  Her movies taught me how to feel....and coming from me who has the heart of the Grinch (pre-growing 3 sizes), that is a big deal.  In her memory I thought I would share some of my favorite moments brought to us by Nora.

1. When Harry Met Sally  - Ending

"I love that you get cold when it's 71 degrees out.  I love that it takes you an hour and a half to order a sandwich.  I love that you get a little crinkle above your nose when you're looking at me like I'm nuts.  I love that after I spend the day with you, I can smell your perfume on my clothes.  And I love that you are the last person I want to talk to before I go to sleep at night...I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible"
Tears.  Every single time.

2.  You've Got Mail - Ending
"I wanted it to be you.  I wanted it to be you so badly"
Ugh.  Feelings!

3.  Sleepless In Seattle - Ending
"Shall we?"
Uggghhhhhh

4.  Mixed Nuts - this is just one part...the entire movie is just...amazing

5.  You've Got Mail - What If

"Hey...how about some coffee or...you know drinks or, dinner, or a movie...for as long as we both shall live."
I cried just watching that again.  You guys....

Such an amazing voice.  I could watch her movies over and over and never get tired of them.
Thank you Ms. Ephron for sharing your talent and passion with us.

"All this nothing has meant more to me than so many...somethings"

All My Friends Are Dead

I've always had kind of an odd sense of humor.  Sometimes it's very dry.  Sometimes it's morbid.  Mostly it's incredibly sarcastic.  I don't know if you've actually gathered that from my blog.  I thought I'd share 2 things that I love that perfectly describe me and my sense of humor.  The first one is something that I haven't thought of in awhile until I saw it on my friend Kelly's blog.  It's a book....a kind of children's book for adults called "All My Friends Are Dead".

Get it?  Because it's a dinosaur?  It's hilarious.  Here are some excerpts...

Ha ha ha.  Yeah.  It's such a great book.  I plan on my children being just as sarcastic as me.

Now for thing #2.  My favorite funny movie OF ALL TIME.  It's called "Waiting For Guffman".

It's filmed "mockumentary" style kind of like "The Office" (which you know I also love....deeply).
It's a parody of community theater set in the small fictional town of Blaine, Missouri and follows some quirky and delusional residents as they prepare to put on a community theater production called "Red, White, and Blaine" to celebrate the town's 150th anniversary.  They even get an equally delusion "big time" producer named Corky St. Clair who is my absolute hero.  I adore him.  Here are some clips...

The trailer...

A scene from the musical....

And my favorite Corky St. Clair line....

Ok I think I've taken up enough of your time with my insane asylum-esque humor.  If you get the chance to see this movie though....do it.  It will change your life.

I'm Country Strong

Last weekend I got the opportunity to go and see this movie.
And can I just say.....one of the best movies I've ever seen.  Ever.  First of all you must know....I absolutely ADORE Gwenyth Paltrow.  I adore Tim McGraw, and I adore Leighton Meester.  That being said...all 3 of them were in this movie.  As well as a handsome fellow I'll get to in a minute.  The story is beautiful.  It's about a famous country singer who enters rehab for alcoholism and when she leaves her husband/manager puts her back on tour.   The story is absolutely beautiful and the acting is phenomenal.  GO SEE THIS MOVIE.  Especially if you love country music but even if you don't.  That being said here are 2 of my favorite parts.
This is when Gwenyth's character goes to play for the Make A Wish Foundation for a little boy with leukemia who loves her music.  His name is Travis.  This part made me bawl my eyes out.

Let's also talk about how Gwenyth did all her own singing for this movie. Who knew??? (Well I did because I happen to watch a little show called "Glee" that she happened to guest star on. She was amazing.)

My other favorite is when Leighton Meester's character and Garrett Hedlund's characters do a beautiful duet.  Seriously everything about it is perfect.  The song is just....flawless.  I must say at the beginning of the movie I was watching Garrett's character and I was like...."eh...he's ok...he has way too much hair" and by the end of the movie I was all "Well...I like hair" so....enjoy.  (you might as well just put it on repeat now)

Seriously...if I'm not making my point clear I'll say it one more time...GO SEE THIS MOVIE and if you need someone to go with give me a call...I'm dying to see it again.

Note to self

I should have gotten a flu shot.  Was in bed all day Monday and was sent home early from work Tuesday because of a delirium inducing fever.  Here's hoping that soup, NyQuil, my computer, and a movie marathon (consisting of Harry and the Hendersons, The Labyrinth, Sixteen Candles, and of course Breakfast At Tiffany's) will be the cure.
I do not want to be sick on Christmas.

*stay tuned for yet another post on why my phone privileges should be taken away from me when I've taken NyQuil.  It's a cautionary tale.

New Challenge Day 28

Day 28 - Your Favorite Movie

No other movie in the world speaks to me more than "Breakfast At Tiffanys"

i'm not sure why. maybe it's the lead character Holly Golightly's (played by the amazing Audrey Hepburn) eccentric personality.

maybe it's Paul Varjak's (played by George Peppard) cynicism.

maybe its the way neither of them believe in love.

maybe it's the way they find it anyway.

I really identify with the characters and I've always wanted to be exactly like Audrey Hepburn (as if you didn't already know that).

plus i feel the same way as Holly about Tiffanys.

It's filled with so many classic lines...

"I've got to do something about the way I look. I mean a girl just can't go to Sing Sing with a green face."

"The mean reds are horrible. Suddenly you're afraid and you don't know what you're afraid of. Do you ever get that feeling? Well, when I get it the only thing that does any good is to jump in a cab and go to Tiffany's. Calms me down right away. The quietness and the proud look of it; nothing very bad could happen to you there. If I could find a real-life place that'd make me feel like Tiffany's, then - then I'd buy some furniture and give the cat a name"

"You could always tell what kind of a person a man thinks you are by the earrings he gives you."

"You musn't give your heart to a wild thing. The more you do, the stronger they get, until they're strong enough to run into the woods or fly into a tree. And then to a higher tree and then to the sky."

"Certain shades of limelight will ruin a girls complexion"

I just absolutely am madly in love with this movie. It's a love story but a love story I can identify with. It's beautiful, sad, funny, magical.

please if you haven't seen this movie. do. immediately. you won't regret it.

(and if you're a regular blog reader...yes I did indeed copy and paste this old entry... )

"and then he kissed me..."
