Just sayin...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GINGER!!!

Today is Mackenzie's birthday...

She turned 15 and I can hardly believe it!
We call Kenz "Ginger" because of her hair. When we were moving across the country we used walkie talkies to communicate from the van to the moving truck. Kenz rode in the truck with Dad and when we wanted to talk to her we would say "come in Gingersnap"...the time Kian did it we about died laughing. But the name has stuck and now I rarely call her Mackenzie.
Calah made her this picture for her birthday...
it's a happy Ginger.

I digress...

Happy Birthday to my 15 year old sister! Sometimes we are the best of friends and sometimes we fight like crazy but that's just because we are 2 of a kind. Either way I still love you and am so proud of all your accomplishments!

Every time I hear that Taylor Swift song "Fifteen" I think of you!

When you're fifteen feeling like there's nothing to figure out
Well, count to ten, take it in
This is life before you know who you're gonna be...
Fifteen

I love that you are my mini me...most days...sometimes it can be frustrating because I feel like I'm arguing with the 15 year old me...time warp. I love that you watch the same shows as me, listen to the same music as me and will do all that stuff with me. It's so much fun laughing and joking with you.

I hope you have a great birthday Ginger!
I love you!

it is kinda creepy how much we are starting to look alike...

Nelson Fam

So...
last week Mackenzie competed at the Shakespeare festival and did a great job! Nobody could believe how young she is and how good she is for being so young...

Kian celebrated his 6th birthday with a couple of friends at FatCats bowling and had a blast.

I am still re-reading Harry Potter. A good follow up to that information is that no I don't currently have a boyfriend.

And that's what you missed last week in the Nelson home.

Updates from Provo...

So since being in Provo I have had my fair share of adventures. My "sister" Jess and I have been hanging out a TON.

this is Jess. you can clearly see why we are best friends

We were room mates our first semester at BYU-Idaho and we instantly became friends. We even joked about being sisters separated at birth after a series of long and boring for everyone else chain of events...She is easily in my top 5 list of favorite people of all time. We laugh so much when we are together...well she is from California but after graduated for BYI the job she got transferred her to Utah so luckily for me we get to see each other ALL the time which is awesome because up until I moved here I hadn't seen her in 5 years!!! We get together at least once a week and oh the adventures we have had- here are some stories that I promise are real... (these pictures are OLD..we have yet to take a recent one..)

Jess Kristin and Me at a football game BYUI 2005

Me, Rhiannon, and Jess BYU Idaho 2005

For the first couple of weeks of hanging out together we did the usual dinner and hanging out things but around our 3rd week we decided to go to this huge bonfire that was happening down at Utah Lake. So we head out that way and find out the bonfire was shut down by the cops...so we needed a plan B. We ended up hanging out with some friends of hers. Her friends are these huge Polynesian guys who are so fun to hang out with. They live in a split level house...they have the basement floor and apparently their "roommates" upstairs were having a birthday party...maybe one of the craziest parties I've ever seen. Upon arriving at the party we were both immediately accosted by 2 Mexican kids who were both clearly intoxicated. One of them was kissing Jessica and I and telling us how beautiful we were and seriously...kissing us A LOT. So we were supposed to have just a nice chill evening with the polys listening to ukulele music and talking but apparently the party goers upstairs decided to come downstairs too. They were loud and drunk and made fools of themselves. One kid was so drunk he ended up vomiting right outside the door (where all of our shoes were...nice). It finally settled down but let me tell you I have never been so grateful for values in my whole life. When we were leaving we had to step over some kid who was passed out in the grass...and I thought to myself "that kid will have to wake up tomorrow in the grass maybe not remembering the night before...how will he feel about himself". The really sad part was that most of these kids were members of the church. I heard one guy talking about how he got off his mission just 5 months ago to Tonga and he had the most baptisms in his area. Then he asked for an (expletive) beer. My heart broke for my Heavenly Father. How disrespectful. I guess it just goes to show where our world is at right now and it's scary.
As a side note...also while leaving the party I grabbed the railing and touched something wet and then touched my hair (I later discovered the wet feeling was actually vomit...which was then in my hair...and it wasn't even mine...uh yeah I'd like my Hepatitis shot now) also while leaving I decided not to wear my shoes just in case I got any remnants of the spewing but while walking out to Jess's car...stepped in vomit on the sidewalk. Ironic?

Our next night hanging out we went up the canyon to take some pictures. We went to Sundance and Bridal Veil Falls...it was beautiful.

After we went to dinner and then to a frozen yogurt place called "Spoon Me"...it is the cutest place ever and the fro yo is delicious as well. It's decorated really cute and modern and it's just such a fun atmosphere.

notice the hours..No Spooning on Sundays

napkins at Spoon Me...crack me up

Last night we went to hang out with our other old roommate Chelsie who is living here too and we went to a place called YoZone (seriously Provo might have the largest number of frozen yogurt places...ever). This place is so fun because you get to get it all yourself and then pay by the ounce. We had so much fun talking and laughing and reminiscing.

Then Jess and I were driving by the soccer fields over by BYU stadium and decided to do some star gazing. By star gazing we obviously mean watching hot guys play flag football. We were cracking ourselves up.
*while re-reading that last paragraph I realized that we sound like such creepers- pretend like we don't...

So far so good here in Provo! I'm sure there will be many more adventures to come. As a side note. I was shopping at Day's Market the other night and my sister stops me and says "Vanessa look at that..." and we discovered these...

I of course had to purchase them and my sister was joking with me saying that instead of the register making a beeping noise when Joshua (our cashier) scanned them...the register would instead make a "dork" noise. Lo and behold as Joshua is scanning the "Jacob" bar this big red square appears on the screen and it loudly beeps like an alarm. My sister died laughing. The words on the screen said "this is not a registered product". Oh c'mon I live in Provo and you're trying to tell me I am the FIRST girl to buy one? I am not believing that Joshua.

Here's to many more adventures in P-Town! (and I'm still really wanting to have a bonfire so if anyone is interested let me know...)

Gone Celebratin'

Dad found a job!

Playing Around...

So I downloaded the program Picasa and I've been having so much fun playing around with it. I LOVE pictures. I love capturing moments in life. I love when pictures look different and fun. I think that you can understand a person or a place better when it's in black and white. I just love photography...here are some of my creations

I'm sure I'll add more...I'm having WAY too much fun with this...

Warning to all parents...

THIS is why you don't want your kids to grow up and become famous...

she does realize that by doing this it's just going to make the tabloids make fun of her MORE...or at least me and Joel McHale will...

S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y NIGHT!

Tonight Mom, Dad and Calah are in Cedar City while Kenzie performs at the Shakespeare Festival....which means Bub and I are celebrating his birthday.

There will be some of this...

some of this...

(as a side note...this movie totally freaks me out. has anyone else seen it? Kian loves it and has watched it a million times...it gives me nightmares)

of course some of this...

and a whole lot of this...

i love saturday night.

Taco Trucks and Cracker Jacks...

I was not aware that they now handed out the Nobel Peace Prize like tacos from the taco truck on the corner...
One time in college I was able to get 5 other hormonal girls to agree on household chores AND how to get all 6 of us up, dressed, made up and beautiful before 9:00 am church on Sunday...if that's not bringing peace I don't know what is. So where is my award huh? I guess I'll just run on down to La Taqueria and get mine...and maybe a burrito.

or maybe I could just open up a box of these and find one?

his laugh. we crack each other up
his kindess. he loves everyone and will hug you upon meeting you for the first time
his face. it always has something on it
his joy for life. it's contagious
his excitement at the littlest of things. he read the card i made him out of markers and computer paper about 500 times to anyone who would listen
his sweet spirit. anytime someone is fighting in our house he tells them to stop because it's not good
his intelligence. he is one smart cookie
his mad wii skills. he kills me everytime
his hugs. they can make any day seem better

Kian you are such a blessing to our family and to me. I don't know what I would do without you. As you grow up I hope you know how much I love you.
You're the BEST!

Nini

Birthday Wishes...

Bub's birthday is on Friday. I asked him what he wanted.

His response: "That thing that puts the toothpaste on your brush"

He was talking about this.

There is no denying that we are related.

He then said...

"No wait! I want two things! the toothpaste thing and a SNUGGIE!"

No joke.

I love my brother.

Note To Self

Johnson's Melt Away Stress Lotion REALLY WORKS!

If you're on an island being fanned and tanned while sipping enless pina coladas being served to you by a cabana boy that looks like Zack Morris

Rich and Awesome

"Do you want to be a loser or do you want to be rich and awesome like that guy from Maroon 5?" this was the question posed to me by a friend whilst we were talking about unemployment. Clearly I would rather be rich and awesome (and marry that guy from Maroon 5) which is why....
I GOT A JOB!!!
Yes I have joined the land of the employed! And no my new job is not being professionally good looking even though I know that was your first thought. My aunt Becky, who is a home health nurse and awesome, called me and told me about this place where she visits one of her patients. It's this huge mansion like house that was turned into an elderly care place. They have 8 residents. Basically it's a bed and breakfast for old people. I get to go in and help everyone get up and dressed. Then I make breakfast and then while the old people sit and watch "The Price is Right" I wash dishes and make beds and vacuum and do other household chores. Then I make lunch and serve them and then I go home. It's kind of like being a housewife...like "Jon and Kate Plus 8" except without the drama and the book. Maybe "Vanessa Plus 8 Geriatrics" hey TLC I smell a winner...or maybe that's a dirty depends like the ones I change ALL day. Strangely enough I've only worked there 5 days and I'm already in love with these people. They are so adorable and have such fun personalities. Like the husband and wife who always sit together and drink their cokes with every meal or the woman who every morning when I'm helping her get dressed looks at me and says "Oh wow you're pretty. I mean it. I think you're the prettiest thing I've ever met!" (clearly she hasn't met a lot...). There is one woman who I don't think likes me very much. Every morning when I go to get her up she is quite sassy with me. Fortunately for me she takes a nap after breakfast and when she wakes up it's like she's forgotten that she doesn't like me because she is much friendlier. I come home everyday EXHAUSTED but so happy. So here's to being rich and awesome or maybe just slightly less poor but totally fabulous.

Freckle DNA

It's like sometimes people create shows just for me. Like a gift. I saw a preview for this show and I felt like a kid who just got his long awaited Red Ryder BB gun. I give you...
My Monkey Baby
Don't mind if I do!
These people are my favorite. Family photo? You got it!

Is it just me or did that monkey take a note from Tyra Banks when she taught the world to smile with their eyes?

I see "America's Next Top Model: Monkey edition" in the future.

And while we're on the subject of completely absurd plot lines....Grey's Anatomy? I'm slightly disappointed in you. So supposedly George got hit by a bus and died although his face was so mangled that they couldn't recognize him. The way they identified him was by a freckle on his right hand shaped like Texas. SERIOUSLY? What kind of an irresponsible hospital is this? His mom comes to the hospital to decide whether or not to donate his organs. Hey Seattle Grace...maybe while she's there you could swab some DNA before you decide to DONATE SOMEONE'S ORGANS!
Ridiculous. We'll see how the rest of the season goes. And just for future reference I have a birthmark shaped like an amoeba on the back of my neck.
